Fishery management

On behalf of Senter International Wittveeen+Bos has executed the following concerning fishery management in Kazakhstan:

• We have guided the formation of the Lake Balkhash Fisheries Industry Association. The goal of the association is to unite fishermen, fish traders and fish processing companies, so that they can combine common interests and influence governmental policy and lake management strategies. In April 2004 the association has been installed officially
• In order to support the future functioning of the association, we have guided the execution of an economical and an ecological study into the lake Balkhash fisheries. The studies provide a knowledge base on the economical situation of the lake´s fisheries and the ecological and fisheries biological status of the lake. Important knowledge gaps have been identified
• In order to fill up the knowledge gaps as stated under point 2 and also to further enhance the functioning of the association, we have defined a number of project proposals and consulted possible donors for financing
