Projects
An overview of our projects executed in Kazakhstan in given below.
Metocean studies for the North Caspian Sea
Since the start of the exploration activities in 1997, Witteveen+Bos Kazakhstan has studied the metocean conditions in the North Caspian Sea. The area north of the line Bautino-Astrakhan is very shallow, with water depths ranging up to 4-8 metres. Large swamps are found along most of the shores. WBK has built up a solid metocean database for engineering purposes.

Wellhead protection design
A design has been prepared for a rock structure to protect an exploration or appraisal well against moving ice during the winter after well completion. In the production stage the well will be integrated in a production wellhead island.
Oil jetty in the port of Aktau
Witteveen+Bos, in joint operation with NIPIneftegas, designed an oil berth for a 6,000 DWT tanker and a new berth for the vessel of the ecology department in the port of Aktau. The oil berth is among a 120 metre long finger pier of limestone core fill with sheetpile walls. The other jetty is a 60 metre long anchored sheetpile quaywall. Design and construction of the jetties had to be prepared under an extreme time pressure.
Fishery management
On behalf of Senter International Wittveeen+Bos has guided the formation of the Lake Balkhash Fisheries Industry Association and the execution of an economical and an ecological study into the lake Balkhash fisheries.
