Oil and gas industry in Kazakhstan
For more than six years, Witteveen+Bos Kazakhstan is involved in infrastructure development for the Kashagan Oil Field in the North Caspian Sea, initially operated by OKIOC, presently by Agip KCO. Witteveen+Bos Kazakhstan is Agip KCO’s main consultant for studies, design work, engineering and construction supervision for all major offshore civil and marine works. This comprises several foundation berms for the grounded drilling barge Sunkar and, up to 2004, four artificial islands for oil ex-ploration and production drilling.

Port Facilities
For Agip KCO we have designed a new rock load-out facility with associated access road and a marine fuelling jetty for the supply port in Karaganski Bay (Bautino, Atash). WBK and NIPIneftegas have prepared the design for a new oil berth in the port of Aktau, which is presently under construc-tion, and designs for a new shipyard in Aktau which was constructed in 2004.

Environmental services
Through Witteveen+Bos Kazakhstan, NIPIneftegas has established an advanced environmental laboratory in Aktau, which enables services in the entire field of pollution control and abatement consultancy. NIPIneftegas possesses a mobile air monitoring laboratory. The establishment of the mobile air monitoring laboratory has been accomplished as a joint-effort between NIPIneftegas and Witteveen+Bos and has been financially supported by the Ministry of Economic Affairs from the Netherlands through the Programme for Cooperation with Central and Eastern Europe.

The mobile air monitoring laboratory allows NIPIneftegas to perform stack emission measurements as well as air quality assessments. The modern, interntional equipment, in combination with the skilled and trained personnel ensures that the operation of the mobile air monitoring laboratory complies to the highest quality standards. It also provides opportunities for the joint-operation with Witteveen+Bos to furhter extend and intensify the scope of their services in Kazakhstan.

Fishery management
Witteveen+Bos Kazakhstan is involved in consultancy to improve the fishery infrastructure of Lake Balkash. The project financed by Senter International (Agency of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs). As leading consultant Witteveen+Bos Kazakhstan has made a consortium with Framian and the Dutch branch organisation on Fisheries.
