Golf course near lake Shuchinsk

(14-11-2011)

On 1 September 2011 Witteveen+Bos Caspian LLP won a public tender for the design and adaptation of an 18-hole golf course near lake Shuchinsk, in the Baravoya region of Kazakhstan.

This beautiful lake district, situated 220 km north of the capital city Astana, is a popular tourist destination for visitors from Kazakhstan itself and from neighbouring Russia. The president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazerbayev, hopes to bring the European Golf Tour, which has visited Almaty in recent years, to the region.

Master plan

Witteveen+Bos Caspian LLP sub-contracted the production of the master plan to Terra Incognita LLC, their Dubai-based representative. Following input from Harradine Golf and DFP Design, the initial master plan was presented to the client, KazTransOil Services, in late October 2011. It met with a very positive reception.

Quality

In addition to the golf course itself, the project includes a 200-room hotel, a clubhouse, 15 cottages and a VIP residence. The total construction budget is $70 million. Witteveen+Bos Caspian LLP will undertake site supervision to ensure the quality of the finished product. This is a marvellous opportunity for Witteveen+Bos Caspian LLP, not only in terms of the project itself but also as a means of establishing its estate department on the Kazakhstan market.
